Haas Lathe G-Codes List

The G-codes you will actually meet on a Haas ST, DS, TL or Toolroom lathe. Tap a highlighted code for its format, an example program and the mistake that scraps parts.

Most-looked-up Haas lathe codes

G50Spindle Speed LimitClamps the maximum spindle RPM. Always program it before G96 constant surface speed.G70Finishing CycleRuns the profile between blocks P and Q once, at finish size. Used after G71, G72 or G73 roughing.G71OD/ID Stock Removal CycleRoughs a turned profile in Z-direction passes, leaving finish stock for G70. Works for OD and ID.G72End Face Stock Removal CycleRoughs a profile in X-direction (facing) passes. Use when the part is shorter and wider — shoulders and faces.G73Irregular Path Stock RemovalRepeats the whole profile, offset inwards each pass. Best for forgings and castings that already follow the shape.G74End Face Grooving / Peck DrillingPecks along Z. On centre it is a peck drilling cycle; with X and I it cuts face grooves.G75OD/ID Grooving CyclePecks along X to cut grooves on the OD or ID, stepping along Z for wide grooves.G76Threading Cycle, Multiple PassCuts a complete thread from one line: first pass depth, total height, infeed angle and lead.G92Threading Cycle, Single PassCuts one threading pass per line. You control every pass depth by writing the X values yourself.G96Constant Surface Speed OnS becomes surface feet (or metres) per minute. RPM rises and falls automatically as diameter changes.G97Constant Surface Speed OffS is plain RPM again. Required for drilling, tapping and threading.G99Feed per RevolutionF is inches (or mm) per spindle revolution. The normal feed mode on a lathe.G41Tool Nose Compensation LeftCompensates for insert nose radius so tapers and arcs are cut to size. G41 left, G42 right of the path.G83Peck Drilling CyclePecks on centre by Q and retracts to the R plane each peck to clear chips.G84Tapping CycleRigid taps on centre. In G99, F is simply the pitch.
