Haas Mill · G-code
G02 Circular Interpolation Clockwise
Cuts a clockwise arc. Define it with an R radius or with I, J, K distances from the start point to the arc centre.
What G02 does on a Haas mill
G02 moves the tool along a clockwise arc (viewed from the positive axis looking down — normally from above in G17) to the end point at feed F. G03 is the same move counter-clockwise.
There are two ways to describe the arc. R gives the radius and is quickest to write. I, J and K give the incremental distance from the arc start point to its centre in X, Y and Z, and are required for a full 360° circle because R cannot describe one.
G02 format
| Address | Meaning |
|---|---|
X Y Z | Arc end point |
R | Arc radius (cannot do a full circle) |
I J K | Incremental distance from start point to arc centre |
F | Feed rate |
G02 example program
G01 X1. Y0. F20.
G02 X2. Y-1. R1. (quarter arc using R)
G02 X2. Y-1. I0. J-1. (the same arc with I/J)
G02 I-1. (full circle: end = start, I/J only)⚠ Watch out
I and J are always incremental from the arc start, even in G90. Getting the sign wrong produces a completely different arc — often through the part.

G02 questions
How do I cut a full circle on a Haas mill?
Command G02 or G03 with the end point equal to the start point and give I/J for the centre. R cannot describe a full circle.
Are I and J absolute or incremental?
Incremental, measured from the start point of the arc to its centre, regardless of G90/G91.
