G53 Machine Coordinate Move
A one-line move in machine coordinates, ignoring work offsets. G53 Z0 is a clean, direct retract.
What G53 does on a Haas mill
G53 is non-modal: for that one block, positions are machine coordinates rather than G54-style work coordinates. It is a rapid move.
G53 Z0. retracts the spindle straight up to machine home with no intermediate point, which is why many shops prefer it to G28. It is also handy for parking the table at a fixed X/Y for unloading.
G53 format

G53 example program
G53 G00 Z0. (retract Z to home)
G53 X-15. Y0. (park the table for unloading)⚠ Watch out
Machine coordinates on a Haas are zero at home and negative everywhere else. G53 Z1. is beyond the travel limit and will alarm.
