Haas Mill · G-code
G76 Fine Boring Cycle
Bores to depth, orients the spindle, shifts the tool off the wall and retracts so the bore is not scored.
What G76 does on a Haas mill
G76 feeds the boring bar to Z, optionally dwells (P), stops and orients the spindle, then shifts the tool away from the wall by Q before rapiding out. That avoids the tell-tale spiral line left by pulling a stationary bar back through a finished bore.
The direction of the shift is set on the control, so the bar must be set in the holder with its tip facing the correct way relative to the oriented spindle.

If the bar tip is clocked the wrong way, the Q shift drives the insert into the bore wall instead of away from it. Check the orientation before the first part.

G76 questions
Why use G76 instead of G85?
G76 shifts the tool away from the wall before retracting, so it leaves no retract mark in the finished bore.
